CGUHS Competency Procedures Day 1: Pre-assessment given. Students must provide their own calculator, pencil, pen, and notebook. IDs will be checked when pre-test is submitted. If the student successfully passes the exam (75% or better), credit will be awarded with a grade of “P” or “F” (Pass or Fail) by the Guidance Office. The seventy-five percent (75%) standard has been established as the district standard for all competency exams for all areas. Once credit is earned, the student is no longer required to attend class.
Day 2: Students identify areas of weakness where they earned less than 80% on the pre-assessment.
Remainder of Course: Students work on instructional and remediation activities associated with areas identified as deficient. When competency in all deficient areas have been demonstrated, student may retake competency exam. If the student successfully passes the exam (75% or better), credit will be awarded with a grade of “P” or “F” (Pass or Fail) by the Guidance Office. Once credit is earned, the student is no longer required to attend the class.
Instructional and remediation work may be done via any internet connection (home, school, library, etc.). Competency testing will be done during extended day hours.
Students may retest up to three times. After each unsuccessful retest, the student is required to remediate in the areas where a score less than 80% was earned.
Students who fail to demonstrate mastery on the competency exam may take each unit exam and have their grade calculated on the average of these test scores. What can I use as resources when I take the exam? You can use the AIMS Reference Sheet and a calculator (supplied by you) when taking the quizzes and competency exam.
Students found cheating on any examinations will be removed from class (dis-enrolled).
